Firefighters Respond To Large Structure Fire In Mechancsville

MECHANICSVILLE, Md. – On September 20, 2024, at 9:22 p.m., fire and rescue personnel were dispatched to Friendship School Road near New Wathen Way following multiple 911 calls reporting smoke emanating from a neighbor’s garage.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a 30-by-30-foot structure with flames through the roof. Due to the roof’s collapse, crews immediately initiated defensive operations.

Firefighters established a water supply at the Fowler Industrial Park. Within 15 minutes, the fire was brought under control, and power to the structure was secured.  No injuries have been reported.

Authorities requested police presence at the scene to address a reportedly combative homeowner.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Officials have called in the Office of the State Fire Marshal to assist with the inquiry.

Crews remain on the scene as of 10:00 p.m., use caution, and expect delays in the area.

This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
