HUNTINGTOWN, Md. – On July 4, 2024, at approximately 10:18 p.m., the Huntingtown Volunteer Fire Department and surrounding stations were alerted to the area of Walton Road for a possible house fire. A passer-by discovered the fire, prompting the emergency response.
Crews arrived at the 500 block of Walton Road to find a large sheet metal barn fully engulfed in flames. Firefighters brought the fire under control within ten minutes. Ambulance 69 staged in the area and operated as the primary EMS resource.
A total of 40 firefighters operated on the scene for approximately three hours before returning to service. No injuries have been reported.
The estimated loss from the fire is $100,000 for the structure and $125,000 for the contents.
The area of origin and the preliminary cause of the fire are still under investigation. The incident is being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
