HUGHESVILLE, Md. –  Farming 4 Hunger stands out as a beacon of hope and community support in Charles County. While many associate the organization solely with food production, its mission and impact extend far beyond agriculture. Through innovative programs that address food insecurity, provide educational opportunities, and support rehabilitation efforts, Farming 4 Hunger is making a significant difference in the lives of many.

Farming 4 Hunger is deeply embedded in the local community, working closely with middle and high schools, colleges, and various community groups. Their team-building initiatives and educational programs are designed to empower youth and adults alike, fostering a sense of responsibility, teamwork, and community spirit.

One of the unique aspects of Farming 4 Hunger’s work is their collaboration with drug courts and programs for incarcerated individuals. These second-chance initiatives offer participants a path to rehabilitation and reintegration, using farming and community service as tools for personal growth and transformation. “We do a lot of work with second chances, with drug courts and incarcerated individuals,” said President Bernie Fowler. “It’s truly about giving people the opportunity to rebuild their lives.”

As part of their ongoing efforts to engage and support the community, Farming 4 Hunger is preparing for their third annual “Taste of the Farm” event, scheduled for November 2nd at Serenity Farms. This event serves as a fundraiser and a celebration of the organization’s work. Early bird tickets are currently on sale for $75 until July 15th, after which the price will increase to $90.

The “Taste of the Farm” event will feature culinary delights from local chefs, who will prepare dishes using fresh produce and meats from the farm. Attendees will have the opportunity to sample a variety of foods while learning more about the different programs offered by Farming 4 Hunger. This year’s event promises to be even more exciting with the addition of Woodbox Heroes, a bluegrass supergroup from Nashville, providing live music. “The Taste of the Farm is a metaphor for the different things we cover,” Fowler explained. “It’s about showcasing our programs and the great food we grow, but also highlighting the community spirit and teamwork that define us.”
