LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – Luricko A. Clyburn, 18, of Lexington Park, Maryland, is facing charges of first-degree and second-degree assault following a violent altercation on August 19, 2024.
Court documents from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office reveal that deputies were dispatched to the Canopy Liquors parking lot on Great Mills Road after receiving reports of a stabbing.
The altercation began as a verbal dispute between Clyburn and another individual. Surveillance footage and witness statements indicate that during the argument, Clyburn brandished a large fixed-blade knife. As the situation escalated, Clyburn stabbed the individual in the abdomen, causing a severe injury that exposed internal tissue. The victim was immediately transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, where they underwent emergency surgery.
After the stabbing, Clyburn attempted to hide the knife in a nearby bush, but the weapon was later recovered by law enforcement. During the incident, Clyburn’s mother was present and actively tried de-escalating the situation before it became physical. After the stabbing occurred, she opened the passenger door of her vehicle urging Clyburn to get inside. She then drove him away from the scene, eventually taking him to his father’s residence in the Lexington Park Patuxent Home Community. Shortly thereafter, enforcement made contact with Clyburn’s mother and apprehended him at her home on Enterprise Road without incident.
Clyburn now faces significant legal consequences, including a first-degree assault charge, which carries a potential sentence of up to 25 years in prison, and a second-degree assault charge, which could result in an additional 10 years of imprisonment. His next court appearance will determine the progression of these charges.
