Elnora Virginia Roberts Branson, daughter of the late Junius Roberts and Mabel Chandler Roberts was born September 8, 1928 in Buffalo Junction in Mecklenburg County Virginia. God called her home to Glory on September 13, 2024.
In January 1936, Elnora and family moved to St. Mary’s County, Maryland, where she attended Banneker Elementary School and graduated from Banneker High School in June 1946.
On January 5, 1947, she married the late Irvin Joseph Branson, where they resided and raised their family in Abell, Maryland.
Elnora had a sweet spirit. Her gentleness, smile and beauty were infectious. She once stated that most of her life she was wife, mother, caregiver, and domestic worker. She along with her good friends, Louise Dickerson, the late Grace Hopps and Ann Jones were known as the “Station Wagon Gang” where she drove all of them in a Chevrolet station wagon and they worked at the Patuxent River Naval Base and the surrounding area.
Her love of gardening, houseplants, and flowers were her passion. She was known for making the best yeast rolls ever and loved playing Bingo and taking long walks. She was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church and since 1953, a member of the Knights of St. John International Ladies Auxiliary No. 305, where she held the position of Financial Secretary
Elnora is survived by her four sons, John H. Branson, Irvin J. Branson, Jr. (Constance), Vernon T. Branson (Yvette), Otho M. Branson (Arthur), two daughters, Joyce Branson Smith (Odell) and Stacey L. Branson; two sisters, Carolyn E. Roberts Goode, Patricia A. Roberts Rogers; sixteen grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
