SOLOMON’S ISLAND, Md. – It was all about safety as the rain moved in Thursday evening for the Independence Day fireworks display on Solomon’s Island, the fourth consecutive display since the offset in 2020.

Drones took to the skies prior to the fireworks display just to make sure the skies were safe.

Event coordinator Kyle Webber was most hopeful that the barge would be emptying at 9:15 p.m. and the public believed so as well as many cars poured into the designated parking lots at 8:00 p.m. to catch a glimpse of the spectacular display that was put on by Digital Lightning, owned by Vince DiGorgio.

Vandy Young, a member of ‘Save Solomons Fireworks’ and resident of Solomons Island stated that DiGorgio had outdone himself again. “Every year gets even more amazing.” she said via Meta.

She also thanked Webber and his crew for pulling off a spectacular event again with limited funds, rising costs and an ‘indomitable spirit.’

“You are one of a kind.” she stated via Meta.

The day began with the United States Flag raising ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Waterman’s monument. California resident Bethan Yeh sang the National Anthem as two bald eagles made an appearance high in the background. It was as if they were saying ‘all is well’.

Part of what made the day special were the volunteers and the people that brought all the spirit to the Island. Ted Haynie, the president of the Solomons Civic Association, Michelle Ward, Rich Cuce, the band Social, the Webber family and the many donors made the day a huge success.

The children enjoyed a bike parade in the morning hours and the reenactors taught the public about the history of our nation. Vendors were set up to connect with the public as well. Captain Smith’s and The Grill Sgt. nearly sold out of food by the end of the day.
