POMFRET, Md. – The Dr. James Craik Elementary School Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) brought the school community together for a heartwarming cause on May 31, 2024. Following the diagnosis of one of our beloved Craik Tigers, Jabril, with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) over Spring Break, the PTO organized a special event to celebrate his courage and support his family.
The event, named “Game Changer: Support Jabril’s Fight,” was a dance that incorporated all of Jabril’s favorite things: video games and superheroes. It was an evening filled with joy, laughter, and solidarity, showcasing the strength and unity of the Craik community.
PTO volunteers worked diligently to create an unforgettable night. They organized silent auction baskets, sold concessions, and ensured every detail reflected Jabril’s interests. We were honored to have the support of the McDonough High School Sports Boosters, who generously donated items for our concession table.
A highlight of the night was a surprise appearance by Jabril himself, which added an emotional touch to the already vibrant atmosphere. The event was a testament to the power of community, as students, parents, and staff came together to support one of their own.
In total, the event raised an impressive $7,134.18 for Jabril’s family, providing them with financial support during this challenging time.
