Donald “Donny” Martin Higgs, 78, of Mechanicsville, MD, peacefully passed away on August 31, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. On November 23, 1945, Donny was born in Washington, DC to William and Ruth Higgs.
He later became a maintenance mechanic at Chalk Point Power Plant. He worked there for over 36 years before retiring in 2013. He enjoyed what he did for a living.
Donny married the love of his life, Frances, on July 14, 1971. The two were blessed with one daughter, Tammy Underwood (Matt) of Mechanicsville, MD.
In his free time, he enjoyed crabbing, fishing, boating, and watching football. He loved to fix anything he could get his hands on that was broken. He also was a proud member of the American Legion Post 238.
Donny was predeceased by his parents, beloved wife, and brothers Billy Higgs, Lloyd Higgs, and Allen Higgs. He is survived by his daughter Tammy, brother Jimmy Higgs (Linda) of Benedict, MD, sisters Lona Davis of Mechanicsville, MD, Debbie Coiro (John) of Spring Hill, FL, grandson Travis Underwood (Caylee), and great-grandchild Lucy Underwood.
On Tuesday, September 10, 2024, the family will receive friends for the visitation from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A funeral service will be held the following day at the funeral home at 10:00 am with interment following after the service at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Pl, Bryantown, MD 20617.
