LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – On July 11, 2024, Dayton C. Harris of Lexington Park, Maryland, was arrested on multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute controlled dangerous substances and firearms offenses. Harris, aged 56, faces serious allegations as outlined in court documents.
According to the official documents, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Vice/Narcotics Unit executed a search warrant at Harris’ residence on Columbus Drive. During the search, officers found several plastic bags containing an off-white compressed substance suspected to be crack cocaine, along with packaging that indicated possession with intent to distribute.
Additionally, there was a tray with crack cocaine residue and a razor blade with white residue, which are commonly used to portion crack cocaine for resale. These items, combined with the quantity of drugs found, led officers to believe that Harris was engaged in distribution rather than personal use.
In addition to the crack cocaine, officers discovered psilocybin mushrooms (Schedule III) in Harris’ room. The psilocybin mushrooms were found on Harris’s nightstand, further supporting the suspicion of his involvement in drug distribution activities.
Harris was charged with several counts, including possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine and psilocybin, possession of drug production equipment, and multiple firearm-related offenses. Specifically, the charges include possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) with intent to distribute, possession of equipment adapted for drug production, and possession of firearms by a person with a felony conviction.
Further investigation revealed that Harris had a shotgun hidden in his closet and additional paraphernalia associated with drug distribution. Harris, who is prohibited from owning firearms due to his criminal record, now faces severe penalties if convicted of these charges.
The investigation continues as authorities work to uncover the full extent of Harris’ activities. All events occurred in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, as documented in the court filings.
