Christmas tree sellers share prices, insight ahead of holiday season

Just days after Thanksgiving, many are pivoting to the Christmas holiday season, picking out Christmas trees to bring home for the holidays.At 17, Andrea Hernandez is juggling school, soccer and the holiday season, while helping her parents run their family business, Javier’s Christmas Trees, in California.”I think we’ll sell out. Definitely,” she said.They’re stocked up now. Trees here, she said, cost between $49 and $149. They have a wide variety (and wreaths for sale, too).”It’s not just about business,” she said. “I like talking to the customers.”On Sunday, families from around the area were out getting their Christmas trees.”It’s really busy,” said Sydney Shriver. Shriver is working her first holiday season at Green Acres Nursery & Supply.Foothill Christmas Trees are being sold at Cal Expo. Co-owner Shannon Stinnett said they had customers calling on Nov. 1 asking if they were open.With wholesale prices and labor costs being up, customers should expect prices to be up slightly but said costs are based on the size of the tree, Stinnett said. “Trees look really good this year. They’re beautiful. In fact, people have said that they look better than they’ve ever looked,” she said. “We’re excited.”Stinnett said the supply looks comparable to years past, and while they’re starting off strong, they have sold out in years past. She said the family is grateful to their loyal customers, some of whom have been buying Christmas trees from them for 30 years.”The people of Sacramento are why we keep coming back,” she said.Stinnett said they hoped their Oregon-grown trees would be available through Dec. 20.Watch the video above for the full story.
