Bandit Fails in Attempted Macau Casino Robbery
A 53-year-old suspect recently was arrested after he demanded cash from a Macau casino employee in a botched holdup.
He walked into a casino cashier’s office and claimed to have a bomb in a plastic bag. He placed the bag on a counter.
The robber then ordered the employee to turn over HKD 2M (US $256,26700). The employee notified security guards. The robber quickly was apprehended by the guards.
Instead of an explosive device, the item in the bag was a power bank. They are typically used to charge cell phones.
Judiciary Police then arrested the suspect. Police charged him with robbery and causing bodily harm. He could face a prison sentence if convicted.
He was identified as “Zhao.”
As police investigated the crime, it turned out the robber had lost money at the casino while gambling years ago, Macau Business reported. He apparently wanted revenge for the prior loss on the casino floor.
No one was seriously injured during the holdup attempt. A security guard suffered minor injuries during a confrontation with the suspect. The casino wasn’t named in local news reports.
