Breaking News: Body Allegedly Found In Well Amid House Fire Investigation

LEONARDTOWN, Md. – In the early hours of August 2, 2024, at approximately 12:22 a.m., fire and rescue personnel were dispatched to a structure fire on Point Lookout Road near Lightfoot Way. The incident was initially discovered by a neighbor.

Upon arrival, crews encountered a two-story “cape cod” style residence with flames visibly emanating from the rear of the house. Firefighters launched an aggressive interior assault using multiple hand lines and conducted thorough searches of the property, which yielded no occupants. The Second District Volunteer Fire Department was the primary responding unit, with approximately 60 firefighters battling the blaze. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal has been called to the scene to conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the fire. The fire, which originated at the back of the dwelling, has resulted in an estimated $100,000 in damages. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

In a developing turn of events, a tip has led to speculation that a body was found 55 feet down at the bottom of a well on the same property as the house fire. ATF agents, along with firefighters and emergency personnel, are currently on the scene, thoroughly investigating the situation.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to contact the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Southern Regional Office, at 410-414-3613.

Stay tuned for further updates as more information becomes available.
