Arson determined as cause of 3-alarm fire in Reisterstown
UPDATE (8:22 a.m. Wednesday) — The Baltimore County Fire Department has announced that the cause of this fire was arson and that one person has been taken into custody. Crews remain at the scene Wednesday morning and the firefighter who was injured battling the blaze has been released from the hospital.ORIGINAL ARTICLE — Baltimore County firefighters are battling a 3-alarm fire at a shopping center in Reisterstown.Baltimore County Fire Department confirmed the fire at the Advance Auto Parts at the 11900 block of Reisterstown Road.They said a mayday was called at 9:44 p.m. and one firefighter was removed from the building with non-life-threatening injuries. Spokeswoman Elise Armacost said a piece of ceiling collapsed on him, but he was rescued and was able to walk out under his own power.She said the first call came at 9:41 p.m. Combustible materials are making the fire challenging, including tires, batteries, fuel and other car parts.Armacost said they are prepared to be there for some time given the expectation the fire could be difficult to knock down.She also asked that bystanders stay clear of the area for their safety as well as the safety of first responders.This report will be updated.
