From investors to airline travelers, many Americans are being forced to deal with the fallout of this giant IT outage . One-time cybersecurity darling Crowdstrike (CRWD) is getting the blame. As a trader, I want to utilize the acute volatility in this historic mishap as an opportunity to produce income and potentially own the cybersecurity giant at lower prices. CrowdStrike shares were getting rocked on Friday. CRWD 1D mountain CrowdStrike, 1 day Risk happens fast and for capturing volatility (either to the downside or upside), I prefer to use options to express a view. My view is that cybersecurity will continue to be a theme that is embraced by global investors. I want to sell the elevated option premium in CrowdStrike to seek to capitalize on this historic move. The Trade (Selling a Put Spread) Sold the regular expiration 8/16/24 $300 put for $14.00 Bought the regular expiration 8/16/2024 $250 put for $3.50 This put spread collects $10.50 per one lot spread. (CRWD was trading roughly $307.50 when executed) Instead of just selling a put, I chose to buy the lower priced strike in the event this historic event metastasizes into a bigger event and loss of clients. I do not believe this will morph into that but, I have defined the risk now.
