Point Lookout State Park, MD. – As we move into September, we’re also moving into Underground Railroad Month. The Underground Railroad is a historic network that helped to free American slaves in the 19th century.
During September, St. Mary’s County is hosting free tours of the Underground Railroad’s history at Point Lookout State Park.
Although the tour is free, you do have to pay to enter the park. The cost is $3 if you’re a Maryland resident and $5 for non-Maryland residents.
The tours will take place on September 7th at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 3:00 pm. Participants will initially meet their tour guide at the Park Headquarters, which is located at 11175 Point Lookout Rd, Scotland, MD 20687.
Upon arriving at the Park Headquarters, you’ll tour major locations around Point Lookout to learn about their involvement with the Underground Railroad. Both children and adults alike can learn new facts about the historic network during this tour.
The Friends of Point Lookout are hosting this event. If you have any further concerns, you can send inquiries to pointlookout.statepark@maryland.gov.
