LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Mark Anthony Buckler, 42, of Leonardtown, Maryland, faces serious charges after a multi-agency investigation led to the discovery of illegal firearms and explosives in his possession.
According to court documents, on August 14, 2024, members of the Maryland State Police (MSP) served a search and seizure warrant at Buckler’s residence located on Point Lookout Road in Leonardtown. The search uncovered several firearms, ammunition, and explosive devices, including items that violated Maryland state laws.
The investigation into Buckler began when a witness reported receiving suspicious messages from him. These messages suggested that Buckler was attempting to sell firearms and other dangerous items, prompting law enforcement to take action. It was revealed that Buckler, who had a prior 2023 conviction that prohibited him from owning or possessing firearms, was still in possession of multiple handguns, a shotgun, and Tannerite, a type of explosive rifle target that he was not licensed to possess.
During the search, officers seized three polymer handgun lower frames, a .410 gauge shotgun, and ammunition, including rounds of various calibers. They also found Tannerite explosive rifle targets, which are legal for use as a target but illegal to possess without proper licensing. One of the polymer handgun lowers lacked a serial number, further compounding the legal violations.
Buckler has been charged with multiple counts, including illegal possession of firearms, illegal possession of ammunition, and possession of explosives without a license. If convicted, Buckler could face up to 5 years in prison and fines up to $10,000 per count of illegal firearm possession. Additional charges for possessing firearms without serial numbers and explosives could add more years to his sentence and increase the fines substantially. The case remains ongoing, with further legal proceedings expected to determine the final outcome.
This incident underscores the importance of vigilant community members in reporting suspicious activity, which can lead to the disruption of potentially dangerous situations.
