Maryland football opened its fall camp Wednesday, exactly one month ahead of its season opener against UConn on Aug. 31.
The Terps begin their campaign in search of a fourth-consecutive bowl game appearance, a feat the program hasn’t achieved since 1982-85. But they will do so without the man who led them to the last three: Taulia Tagovailoa. The Big Ten’s all-time leading passer signed with the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats in June after a stint in the Seattle Seahawks’ rookie minicamp.
Head coach Michael Locksley, who is entering his sixth season at the program’s helm, said Tagovailoa’s successor — who will be either redshirt junior Billy Edwards Jr., redshirt sophomore MJ Morris or redshirt sophomore Cameron Edge — won’t be announced until “we run out for the first drive.”
Regardless of who the quarterback is, Locksley reiterated that the 2024 Terps will be a “defensive-led” team. He emphasized the unit’s seven returning starters.
