WALDORF, Md. – Mack Lee Cleckley, 40, of Baltimore, Maryland, has been arrested on multiple charges, including possession with intent to distribute drugs and failing to register as a sex offender in Charles County. This arrest follows a series of legal troubles for Cleckley, including a recent violation of electronic monitoring terms.
In April 2024, according to court documents, Cleckley was arrested by detectives from the Charles County Sheriff’s Office on charges of possession with intent to distribute drugs. He was released from the Charles County Detention Center on electronic monitoring. However, Cleckley cut off the monitoring device and fled the area, failing to appear in court for his drug case.
Consequently, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. On June 24. 2024, officers from the United States Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force located and arrested Cleckley in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was charged with a federal probation violation warrant and awaited extradition back to Charles County, Maryland.
Court records indicate that Cleckley faces multiple drug-related charges, including possession with intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance (CDS), possession of CDS not cannabis, and production equipment for CDS. His trial is scheduled for July 31, 2024, in the Charles County Circuit Court.
Additionally, Cleckley was convicted in Prince George’s County on May 23, 2003, of a third-degree sex offense, which requires him to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. Following his release from the Charles County Detention Center on May 3, 2024, Cleckley was required to re-register as a sex offender. Correctional Officer Corporal Flerlage conducted Cleckley’s re-registration, during which Cleckley confirmed all demographic and registration information. He also signed the Department of Public Safety Notice of Sexual Offender Requirements Form, acknowledging that he understood his obligations under federal and state laws.
However, according to Detective Bowen with the Baltimore City Police Department, Cleckley failed to appear for his scheduled registration on May 6, 2024, and did not make contact with any law enforcement agency to conduct his re-registration as required. Detective Bowen confirmed that Cleckley had not registered with their agency either.
As a result, an arrest warrant was issued on May 14, 2024, for Cleckley’s failure to register as a sex offender. He is currently being held at the Charles County Detention Center without bond, awaiting an initial appearance in court for these additional charges.
Further updates will be provided as the case progresses through the judicial system.
