A DISASTER DECLARATION FOR 13 COUNTIES HIT BY MASSIVE FLOODING THAT DECLARATION WILL SEND FEDERAL AID TO EASTERN KENTUCKY WHERE FIRST RESPONDERS ARE STILL WORKING TO RESCUE PEOPLE TRAPPED IN FLOOD WATERS FOR A SECOND DAY IN A ROW 20 PEOPLE ARE CONFIRMED DEAD SO FAR TONIGHT, INCLUDING SIX CHILDREN OUR MARC VANDERHOFF IS LIVE IN STUDIO WITH US WITH THE VERY LATEST AND MARK. WHAT DO WE KNOW ABOUT THE CONDITIONS THERE ON THE GROUND? WELL, HERE’S THE PROBLEMS STEFAN MANY ROWS ARE STILL NOT. POSSIBLE. SO FIRST RESPONDERS CAN’T EVEN GET INTO SOME AREAS EXCEPT BY AIR AND THERE’S NO CELL PHONE SIGNAL IN A LOT OF PLACES SO IT’S BEEN DIFFICULT TO GET AN EXACT COUNT OF THE MISSING. GOVERNOR ANDY BESHEAR SAYS THE FLOOD WATERS ARE EXPECTED TO CREST SATURDAY, BUT MORE RAIN IS IN THE FORECAST FOR MONDAY. HE EXPECTS THE DEATH TOLL TO CONTINUE TO RISE AS RESCUERS ARE ABLE TO REACH MORE AREAS CURRENTLY UNDERWATER TO ALL THE FAMILIES THAT KNOW YOU’VE ALREADY SUSTAINED A LOSS. WE’RE GOING TO GRIEVE WITH YOU. WE’RE GOING TO SUPPORT YOU. WE’RE GOING TO BE HERE FOR YOU NOT JUST TODAY BUT TOMORROW AND IN THE WEEKS AND THE AND THE YEARS TO COME ON FRIDAY PRESIDENT, JOE BIDEN GRANTED A MAJOR DISASTER DECLARATION SENDING FEDERAL AID TO 13 COUNTIES ALL OF THESE HEROES ON THE FRONT LINES THE NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS THE FIRST RESPONDERS AND EVERYBODY ELSE THAT’S COMING IN. I’M JUST WANT TO EXPRESS MY GRATITUDE FOR PUTTING YOURSELF OUT THERE TO HELP EVERYBODY. HOUSE IN THE MEANTIME VOLUNTEERS SUCH AS BERT FITZGERALD OF LOUISVILLE PACKED UP TO TRAVEL TO EASTERN KENTUCKY WHERE THEY’LL LIKELY WORK AT ONE OF TEN SHELTERS BASED ON WHAT I’VE SEEN I THINK SHELTERING IS GOING TO BE A BIG ISSUE EVEN PEOPLE NOW SOMETIMES THE FIRST DAY OR TWO THEY SLEEP IN THEIR CAR THEY SLEEP ON THEIR COUCHSURFING WITH FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS AS OF EARLY FRIDAY FRIDAY THE FLOOD WATERS FORCED 337 PEOPLE. SHELTERS 24,000 ARE WITHOUT POWER 294 PEOPLE HAVE BEEN RESCUED MORE THAN 100 OF THEM BY AIR AS WE SIT HERE TODAY PORTIONS OF AT LEAST 28 STATE ROADS IN KENTUCKY ARE BLOCKED DUE TO FLOODING SLIDES OR DAMAGE. WE HAVE BRIDGE INSPECTORS AND ENGINEERS IN THE FIELD, BUT WE’RE UNABLE TO EVEN GET TO SOME OF THESE ROADWAYS IT IS SO BAD, BUT SHE URGED PEOPLE TO DONATE TO THE TEAM EASTERN KENTUCKY FLOOD RELIEF FUND. YOU SEEN THE PICTURES IN MANY WAYS LIKE TORNADO A LOT OF THESE HOUSES ARE JUST GONE AND EVEN IF SOME OF THE HOUSES ARE STILL THERE, THEY MAY BE UNINHABITABLE MOVING FORWARD. NOW HERE’S ANOTHER CHALLENGE FOR FIRST RESPONDERS, EVEN THOUGH MANY OF THEM HAVE BEEN WORKING FOR NEARLY 48 HOURS. THEY WON’T GET MUCH OF A BREAK THIS WEEKEND. Kentucky was hit with another round of rainstorms last week as the death toll rose to 37, and hundreds of others remain unaccounted for. Rescue efforts are underway to save people trapped in homes, and shelters are popping up to help those displaced.Gov. Andy Beshear says the state is prioritizing monetary donations, cleaning supplies and bottled water. People are asked not to travel to the affected area unless they have contacted search and rescue groups and plan to help them.
