CALIFORNIA, Md. – With 2:00 PM observations showing a number of locations along I-95 and points eastward with heat index values at/above 110 degrees, these locations have been upgraded to Excessive Heat Warnings.
The warning is in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening and covers portions of central and southern Maryland, the District of Columbia, and northern Virginia. Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, remain in air-conditioned rooms, avoid the sun, and check on relatives and neighbors. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles. If you work outside, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening, wear lightweight clothing, and take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Heat stroke is an emergency—call 911 if necessary.
