Details Released: Mechanicsville Man Arrested For Assaulting Woman; Charged With Attempted Murder


GREAT MILLS, Md. – John William Alvarado, a resident of Mechanicsville, has been arrested on multiple charges including attempted first and second-degree murder, assault, and several firearms violations. The arrest follows a domestic incident that occurred on June 22, 2024, at a residence in Great Mills.

According to court documents, patrol officers responded to reports of shots fired and found a woman with non-life-threatening injuries to her head, allegedly inflicted by her ex-husband, John Alvarado. The victim identified Alvarado as the assailant and reported that he had struck her with a handgun and fired two shots.

During the investigation, officers found spent casings at the scene and a blood-stained rag on the front step. The victim was transported to Capitol Regional Medical Center for treatment.

A security camera at the residence captured the incident. Footage reportedly showed Alvarado arriving in a black vehicle and engaging in the assault. The footage and evidence collected at the scene were crucial in identifying and locating Alvarado.

Alvarado, who has a history of felony convictions, was prohibited from possessing firearms. He faces charges of first and second-degree attempted murder, first and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and multiple firearm-related offenses.

Authorities have stated that all events occurred in St. Mary’s County, Maryland, and Alvarado is currently being held without bail pending further court proceedings.
