LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – After months of confusion and distress, residents of the Lord Calvert Mobile Home Park have finally received some good news regarding the future of the trailer park. During the June 11, 2024, Board of County Commissioners meeting, Commissioner Mike Hewitt (R) announced the trailer park will remain open.
“Currently, it is not economically feasible to move forward with the multi-family residential project which has been planned for this property for more than 10 years. We have made a business decision to continue with the ownership and operation of Lord Calvert at this time,” Cherry Cove Group told The BayNet. “We will be undertaking some new initiatives to ensure that the residents of Lord Calvert, are able to enjoy a peaceful, law-abiding and cooperative residential surrounding.”
Several meetings to discuss future plans for the park are being scheduled. Cherry Cove stated the park residents will receive appropriate advance notice, to ensure maximum attendance.
“It’s not the end of the story, because what needs to happen is, we need to have some fundamental changes in the way that trailer park and the residents take care of it,” stated Hewitt. “We need to figure out a way to get rid of all the trash that’s accumulated, it is the landlord’s part to do that. But we need county help and whatever we can do, and the residents too. This Commissioner plans to take a role where I’ll go through that trailer park and try to reach out to the residents and try and figure out a way that they can help themselves.”
Hewitt then went on to talk about some of the violations that have taken place within the park.
“There are numerous violations with unpermitted decks and additions and these types of things, and we cannot permit anything that’s not safe. It has to be looked at. And if it’s not safe, it has to be corrected. But it’s good to know that we will not have, a lot of people who are in what I call affordable housing, put on the street and have to find additional housing, and that’s that’s good news. But there’s more work to be done. So don’t think it’s over,” said Hewitt.
