As you can see in this example, posted by app researcher Alessando Paluzzi, Threads is currently working on a new option that would enable you to switch profiles within the post composer, so that you can more easily post from a connected account.
That could be handy for social media managers who have a connected business handle, and come up with an idea for a brand post in the moment, or for those who have secondary, topic-focused profile, from which they want to post breaking news.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a major upgrade, functionally, as Threads has enabled in-stream profile switching since September last year. You can easily switch between connected accounts by double tapping on the profile image in the bottom right of the main UI, so you can already post from another account without much hassle in the app.
But it may make it a little easier to re-share posts quickly, without having to switch profiles, then locate the post that you want to share, then compose a new update, etc.
Threads has actually done a pretty good job of facilitating connected accounts, with the simplicity of linking once, then being able to access your secondary profile within the app. The risk, as always, is that you end up posting an update from the wrong account, but that’s a small price to pay for the added convenience of being able to post from multiple accounts in the app.
So this update wouldn’t be a functional change, as such, but a streamlined posting option, making it easier to maintain activity in the app.
And definitely, Threads wants to ensure people keep posting.
On Twitter (now X), for example, only a fifth of its users ever post anything at all, with the other 80% of those logged in only ever reading posts. Threads, presumably, is much the same, which means that it really needs that small number of active posters to keep uploading content, in order to maintain activity and engagement.
As such, providing more ways to maximize posting makes sense.
The option is currently in testing, with no word on a live test/roll-out as yet.
