LEONARDTOWN, Md. – The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is heartbroken to announce the passing of retired Corporal Wayne Milam, a dedicated law enforcement officer who served our community with honor and distinction.
Corporal Milam began his career as a Deputy Sheriff with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office in July 1989, rising to the supervisory rank of Corporal. While with the agency, he served as a skilled member of the Underwater Search and Recovery Team and a Firearms Instructor.
Before joining SMCSO, Corporal Milam served with the Montgomery County Police Department and the Rockville City Police Department, beginning his law enforcement journey in 1969. His dedication to public service started even earlier, as he honorably served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era.
Corporal Milam was so much more than a Deputy. He mentored many in the Sheriff’s Office, sharing advice and knowledge with all who worked with him.
During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and all who were fortunate to know him. We honor Corporal Wayne Milam’s life of service and his legacy in the law enforcement community.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced, but we will share details as soon as they become available.
