Samsung announced it has begun mass production of its fastest SSD for PCs. The PCIe 5.0-based product, model name PM9E1, has the industry’s highest performance and largest capacity, the company claims.
Samsung stated that the memory stick is built on the 5 nm-based controller and 8th-gen V-NAND technology. It aims to provide “powerful performance and enhanced power efficiency, making it an optimal solution for on-device AI PCs.”
The PM9E1 provides 14.5 GB/s reading speed and 13 GB/s writing speed, enabling a plethora of data-intensive AI applications.
Samsung will offer the PM9E1 in various storage options, including 512 GB, 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB.
Several protocols, including Secure Channel, Device Authentication, and Firmware Tampering Attestation, are applied to the SSD’s security. These technologies prevent supply chain attacks during production or distribution processes.
Samsung will offer the PCIe 5.0-based solution to global PC makers first. Later, it should reach consumer markets but not before the PM9E1 gets a cooler-sounding name, like 1090 PRO or something similar.
