ANNAPOLIS, Md. — In a display of quick thinking and compassion, an Anne Arundel County police officer successfully freed a deer trapped in a soccer net at a local park on Sunday morning.

Corporal Sears, responding to a call about an injured animal, arrived at Peninsula Park on Bay Ridge Road on September 29, 2024, around 8:30 a.m. to find a large buck entangled in the netting. Using shears, the officer carefully cut away the net, freeing the animal within minutes.

The deer, appearing unharmed, was safely released back into the surrounding area. The entire rescue was captured on the officer’s body-worn camera, showcasing the department’s readiness to handle diverse situations, including wildlife-related incidents.

As autumn progresses and deer become more active, local authorities remind residents to be vigilant and report any wildlife in distress.
