ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Anne Arundel County Public Schools and Maryland Hall are offering a free workshop for children in the 4th and 5th grades interested in visual arts and robotics. The Visual Arts and Robotics Program was held for the first time at the Eastport United Methodist Church at 5 pm on September 19th. Each class will be held on a Thursday during the 2024 school year.

The Visual Arts and Robotics Program is a fun academic opportunity that parents can use to pique their child’s interest in the world of STEM. Robotics is an industry that’s evolving every day. As more effort is placed on developing and manufacturing robots, more jobs will be created to fill the empty roles.
You can register your child for the Visual Arts and Robotics Program using this form. The class is only open to 30 students at a time. However, once the program fills up completely, your child will be placed on a waiting list and given the spot if another child drops out. Regular non-attendance will result in your child’s eventual removal from the academic program.
The first class ran for two hours, with one hour each dedicated to visual arts and robotics. Students split into groups of 10-15 members and rotate between the programs on the hour mark.
The class is completely free for participants because Maryland Hall has an initiative called the Creating Communities Program, which is backed by donors and grant money.
Creating Communities is an initiative created by Rob Levit with the goal of offering low-income families the opportunity to participate in the arts. The program joined forces with the ArtReach program at Maryland Hall on January 1, 2023.
We reached out to Sam Clements of the Visual Arts and Robotics Program, to which she responded, “This new program is an exciting opportunity for students in 4th and 5th grade. Students will develop their STEM and visual arts skills by designing, creating, and programming robots using VEX Robotics kits and learning to draw, paint, and create in all the visual arts mediums. Our experienced teaching artists will provide modeling and guidance while sharing their professional work with students. Opportunities to exhibit their work at a student gallery in early 2025 allow kids to share their progress and skills!”
