Teen steals car with baby inside, then has a change of heart

The terrifying moment a teenager stole a vehicle with a baby inside was caught on camera, with footage showing the child’s mother running after the car.Regina Padilla told WPVI that her vehicle was parked in the middle of her street in Philadelphia and, as she walked her 2-year-old up the steps to her grandmother’s home, a teenager walked up to the car and took off with her 14-month-old in the back seat. “I was terrified. I was absolutely terrified,” Padilla said. “I just kept screaming ‘my baby, my baby’ in hopes that he would stop and thank God he did.”The teenager only got a few yards up the street before he had a change of heart, stopped the car and ran off. Padilla said she ran to get her baby while her neighbor tried to catch up with the teenager who tried to steal the car.Padilla and her family are thankful that Lilly Anne wasn’t harmed during the incident and hope the teenager learned his lesson.”They think this is OK to do something like this — to take someone else’s property whether they knew there was a child in the car or not,” Padilla said. “I hope this is a wake-up call to them, that they should do better and be better.”Police are still looking for the teen suspect.
