Fight at school led to fatal assault of children’s father

A father in Anne Arundel County was killed while protecting his children from a fight that started at a middle school and came to their home. Christopher Michael Wright, 43, of Brooklyn Park, was assaulted before 5 p.m. Friday in the 300 block of West Arundel Road, Anne Arundel County police said.Wright’s fiancée, Tracy Karopchinsky, told 11 News that her son got into a fight with another teen Friday afternoon at Brooklyn Park Middle School. Then, three teens and two adults came to her house looking for her son but encountered Wright outside.”I was at Shock Trauma, and initially, my dad and I tried to go on to the camera to look, and the first video that comes up is my 12-year-old son screaming, ‘Daddy, daddy, daddy,’ and running out of the house into the street to go help his dad, and I couldn’t watch anymore after that. I just couldn’t,” Karopchinsky told 11 News.Wright was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries hours later.Anne Arundel County police said they are investigating and that charges could be filed against the individuals involved.School officials said they’re working with police on the investigation.Karopchinsky said her three boys were home when their father was beaten, and she is warning parents that violence among teens has gone too far and said parents need to step up.Wright’s family is planning a candlelight vigil to honor his memory.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 410-222-4731 or the Anne Arundel County Police Tip Line at 410-222-4700.
