HOLLYWOOD, Md. — A worker was found dead atop a 65-foot concrete silo in Hollywood, Maryland, following a high-angle rescue operation on Thursday night.
Emergency crews responded to Chaney Enterprises on Airport View Drive on September 5, 2024 at approximately 9:26 p.m. after reports of a missing worker. Maryland State Police Aviation Command’s Trooper 7 confirmed visual contact with an unresponsive individual on the silo’s top.
The Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department led the rescue effort, utilizing hydraulic tools to create an opening and lower the victim to the ground. The deceased was identified as Edward Smith, 64, of Mechanicsville, Maryland.
Preliminary investigations suggest Smith climbed the silo and experienced a medical emergency. The exact cause of death is still under investigation by Maryland State Police.
